Video Consultation for Aged Care

SEMPHN was one of nine sites across Australia selected to run the Commonwealth Better Health Care Connections program. A significant focus of the program was the demonstration of Telehealth to increase access to timely and appropriate care for residents of aged care facilities(RACFs). The project demonstrated that video consultations, when supported, were cost-effective, timely and a clinically useful tool for consulting with these clients.

Specialist Telehealth

Medicare Benefit Schedule (MBS) items exist for Specialists to undertake video consultations with patients in RACFs anywhere in Australia. GPs can also claim for patient–end support. A list of telehealth capable Medical Specialists providing care for residents in the Peninsula Health catchment is available for RACFs and GPs.
