Statewide Referral Criteria for Specialist Clinics
Back to: Pathways
The Department of Health and Human Services is developing statewide referral criteria to assist GPs and clinicians referring patients to specialist clinics. To go to the DHHS Statewide Referral Criteria for Specialist Clinics website click here.
Referrals that do not meet the Statewide Referral Criteria will be expected to be declined by all Victorian public hospitals. If your referral is declined, you should receive correspondence from the health service explaining why the referral has not been accepted.
Please Note: Statewide referral criteria have been developed for select Endocrinology conditions. Public specialist clinics across Victoria are not currently required to assess new referrals against these criteria. However, referring clinicians are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the statewide referral criteria in preparation for their launch in all Victorian public specialist clinics in the near future.
Clinical and referral pathways utilising the Statewide Referral Criteria for specialist clinics cover:
- ENT
- Gastroenterology
- Gynaecology
- Neurology
- Urology
- Vascular
- Rheumatology
- Ophthalmology
- Obstetrics
- Cardiology
- Endocrinology
