We offer a multidisciplinary approach that includes specialised cardiologists, haematologists, geneticists, nurses and pharmacists. Our expert heart team manages all subtypes of cardiac amyloidosis including:

- ATTRwt (wild-type transthyretin)
- ATTRV (hereditary amyloidosis)
- AL amyloidosis (associated with multiple myeloma)
- AA amyloidosis (associated with rheumatoid arthritis)

Our comprehensive management strategies arranged include in-house include:

- Endomyocardial biopsy (immunohistochemistry and mass spectrometry)
- Advanced cardiac imaging (cardiac MRI and echocardiography)
- Nuclear medicine scintigraphy scans (bone scans)
- Genetic testing (bulk-billed with genetic counselling)
- Disease modifying pharmacotherapy
- Cardiac transplantation
- Access to clinical trials with active research collaborations with the Australian Amyloidosis Network, Monash University and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute

Cardiac Amyloidosis is a complex diagnosis which may be mimicked by a number of rare conditions. A secondary purpose of our clinic is to investigate complex patients with undifferentiated left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and to on-refer them to our in-house expert colleagues who manage other conditions such as hypertrophy cardiomyopathy, cardiac sarcoidosis, hypertensive heart disease, athlete’s heart and Fabry’s disease.

Our goal at Alfred Cardiology is to facilitate the best standard of care for patients with Cardiac Amyloidosis. We aim to collaborate with referring practitioners in a shared-care model and encourage referrals and consultations.
