Suicide deeply affects many people across Australia. The emotional and social costs of suicide are beyond measure, with the effects of suicide and suicide attempts felt deeply by family, friends, individuals and communities. At SEMPHN, we are dedicated to compassionately addressing suicide prevention, providing meaningful support to those impacted, and actively working to reduce its incidence.
SEMPHN’s efforts are guided by the National Suicide Prevention Strategy and the Victorian Suicide Prevention Framework. We work closely with local communities, healthcare providers, and individuals with lived experience to develop and commission programs designed to:
- Prevent suicide
- Support those who have attempted suicide
- Provide care and understanding to families, friends, and communities affected by suicide.
Our recent
Health Needs Assessment highlights that suicide remains the leading cause of death among Australians aged 15 to 44. This reinforces our commitment to fostering environments where people feel safe, supported, and encouraged to seek help when they need it most.
