The new headspace centre will deliver a service model responsive to the needs of young people and families who live, study, work and/or have connections to South Melbourne and surrounding areas. The successful lead agency will work collaboratively with headspace National and SEMPHN staff to establish the service. Given South Melbourne's close proximity to the North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) catchment, the service model will need to ensure it is responsive to neighbouring local government areas i.e. Melbourne City Council and relevant youth mental health service providers i.e. Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The eligibility criteria and full specifications of the service are available on SEMPHN’s eProcure.
headspace is designed to improve the mental, social, and emotional wellbeing of young people in Australia aged 12 - 25 years. The headspace model is based on removing the barriers to service access and increasing the propensity for young people to seek help. The aim is to ensure that young people receive accessible, appropriate, and effective services within a sustainable service system.
The headspace centre model has an early intervention orientation and comprises four core service streams: mental health, physical/sexual health, drug and alcohol and educational/vocational services.
The activities related to headspace South Melbourne must prioritise and ensure youth-friendly practices within service establishment and operation. All activities must be tailored to suit the needs of young people (aged 12-25 years), their families and friends and the services aligned with the headspace centre service model.
