Now recruiting Doctors in Secondary Schools: Dandenong and Pakenham

April 5, 2023

We have vacancies at Dandenong and Pakenham in our Doctors in Secondary School Program. This is a great opportunity to deliver youth-friendly health services to students at Dandenong High School or Pakenham Secondary college.

Current available positions:

  • General Practice Doctor (4 hours a week)
  • General Practice Nurse (up to a day each week)

If you (a practice manager, GP and/or practice nurse) have a strong adolescent and mental health focus and want to change up your daily routine to work with school kids – this is the role for you!

Benefits

There’s heaps or reasons to get involved. By being a part of the Doctors in Secondary Schools (DiSS) program, you, your practice and clinicians can help give kids the healthcare they need, where and when they need it. Participants like Mohita Suyal, Practice Nurse at Southern Cross Medical Centre and DiSS Practice Nurse at Hampton (pictured above), tell us they feel ‘fulfilled’ and ‘rewarded.’

Here’s just a few reasons you should take part:

Nurses and doctors

  • Do something different one day out of your week.
  • Make a difference in a young person’s life.
  • Put your expertise in mental health and youth to good use.
  • Extend your experience in a school setting.

Practice managers

  • Increase your practice community presence.
  • Establish positive relationships and partnership with the community.
  • Build trust with local young people and provide early intervention.
  • Offer a ‘different’ work experience for your GP and Nurse to add variety.
  • Give your clinicians the opportunity to use their skills and experience in working with adolescents.
