World Menopause Day: Start the conversation early
Home / News & Opportunities / Latest news / Current post
18 October marks World Menopause Day, an annual opportunity to raise global awareness, reduce stigma and provide education around perimenopause and menopause.
Healthcare professionals play a vital role in supporting women through all stages of life. Many women may feel unprepared about perimenopause and menopause or are at risk of being exposed to misinformation and feel the impact of stigma and taboo. Perimenopause can begin at 35, and some women may experience early menopause (before age 45) or premature ovarian insufficiency (before age 40).
Healthcare professionals are encouraged to start conversations with women from the age of 35 to support patients in finding evidence-based information on symptoms, treatments and support options.
The Australian Government launched the National Menopause and Perimenopause Awareness Campaign earlier this year to improve access to reliable information and support for women aged 35 and over who are going through this life stage.
Ahead of World Menopause Day, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has released information and resources to help healthcare professionals support patients experiencing perimenopause and menopause.
