Expression of interest: GP input into protocols being developed for the Community Pharmacist Program
Home / News & Opportunities / Latest news / Current post
The Victorian Department of Health is seeking input from general practitioners to review clinical protocols being developed for the Community Pharmacist Program (the Program).
About the program
The Program is a statewide initiative that enables trained community pharmacists to administer, supply and sell specified Schedule 4 medications without a prescription, for select conditions. To support this, pharmacists in the Program must follow clinical protocols for each service.
Each clinical protocol is developed with input from a range of clinical and subject matter experts to ensure that services under the program are safe and appropriate for Victorian patients. GP input into the protocols supports both the clinical aspects of the protocol and the collaborative relationship between the pharmacist and general practice.
What's involved?
The Program is expanding to include 23 health and wellbeing conditions by June 2027, and the Program is seeking support from general practitioners to review and provide input on the draft clinical protocols for the conditions below.
Feedback will be sought through either meetings or workshops, and GPs will be remunerated for their time. The time commitment is approximately one hour, depending on the protocol. After hours consultation can be facilitated.
