Ministerial visit to Prahran Urgent Care Clinic

It was an honour to welcome our government leaders to our Prahran Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) to discuss UCCs and how they’re helping to take the pressure off hospital emergency departments.
On Monday May 19, representatives from the Sandringham Ambulatory Care Centre (SACC), Alfred Health, and the South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (SEMPHN) joined the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon. Richard Marles MP, local Member for Macnamara Josh Burns MP, Member for Melbourne Sarah Whitty MP, and other officials for a tour of one of the four Medicare Urgent Care Centres (UCCs) in south-east Melbourne, which were commissioned by SEMPHN.
Prahran Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) is located right behind the Emergency Department at the Alfred Hospital in Commercial Road, Prahran.
Since it opened its doors in 2023, 20,000 people have visited the clinic.
That’s 20,000 patients with non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses, who didn’t need to wait at the Alfred Hospital Emergency Department and were able to access free high quality urgent medical care when they needed it - with or without a Medicare card.
Thank you to our Prahran, Dandenong, Frankston, and Narre Warren UCC providers for increasing access to primary care services and providing timely, patient-centred health care to our priority populations and residents in south east Melbourne. By working together with emergency departments and general practices, you’re helping create a more integrated primary health care model that eases the demand and supports referrals.
Medicare UCCs (formerly known as Primary Care Clinics) are commissioned by Primary Health Networks with funding from the Victorian and Australian Governments.
